Gaye Theresa Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies and an affiliate in the Department of African American Studies at the University of California at Los Angeles. She also serves as Chair of the Faculty Advisory Committee for the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies.

I'm a historian of freedom struggles and cultural politics. At UCLA, I write and teach about the links between freedom struggles, radical spatial politics, and cultural representation.

Her first book, Spaces of Conflict, Sounds of Solidarity: Music, Race, and Spatial Entitlement in Los Angeles (University of California Press) is a history of civil rights and spatial struggles among Black and Brown freedom seekers and cultural workers in LA.
